I’m just back from Tokyo, visiting relatives and sightseeing with my family, and am inspired by some new fabrics! The indigos are a mix of vintage scraps (which I already had) and new pieces just brought back. The paper crane pattern is an adorable cotton remnant from Tokyo. The solar drawings/house come from a silk piece (not from Japan)–surplus men’s tie fabric. All are available at my Etsy shop now, with free shipping in the US!

Looking for ideas for these little fabric-covered gems? At a diminutive 1″ across each, they add an understated pop of adornment worn solo, or make a bold statement worn in a group. After a weekend of pop-up shops, for National Dance Day at Pasadena Dance Theatre on Saturday, and then at the Nia Santa Monica Sunday morning jam, online listings were starting to look a little depleted, so new sets of pinback buttons have now been added! Buttons are made with scrap, recycled, and reclaimed fabrics in a wide variety of textures, fibers, and colors. Each one is just one inch (1″) across. Although I like to photograph them up close and personal, they’re really petite and understated in person.

To celebrate National Dance Day in style, particular craft will be offering dance-themed button pins made with unique bespoke fabric, custom made just for this occasion, along with stage-worthy glamour and other selections.

I love a good “tourist in my own city” kind of a day. With a few days off this summer here and there, I’m exploring new destinations in and around Los Angeles. Today, the fabric and fashion district(s) in DTLA called my name. 

Between scraps by the pound at Michael Levine Loft and the small but mighty scrap bin and sample pieces at the FIDM Scholarship Store… well let’s just say I had an enjoyable and productive time! 

Here are a few early products, some mixed in with older fabrics, now with a fresh new context.

I’m delighted to share particular craft‘s new venue for local shoppers: Retreat, a “specialty artisan craft shop” in South Pasadena, CA! Owner Diane has an amazing eye and the shop is filled with delights.

Retreat is open every day and ’til 8 pm Thu-Sat (so stop by after you hit the Thursday Farmer’s Market), or come visit during the South Pasadena Arts Crawl this Saturday, July 15 from 5 to 9 pm!
